The
Dalhousie Arabic Society has now spanned over 2
generations of students who carry a strong
commitment to bringing the unique Arabic culture
to Canada – a country that advocates
multiculturalism.
Since its conception in 1994 by Faisal Shehab,
the society has evolved and grown in many ways.
Today it houses over 150 current and alumni
members from different universities and schools.
The society provides a variety of services
including exhibitions
portraying Arab culture as well as contemporary
issues, and also participates as a voice for the
Arab community in many political issues that
affect our lives today. DAL.A.S. also founded the CKDU
97.5FM Radio Show, “The Arabic
Voice” (El Sot el 3araby) which is now among
several other Arabic radio shows on the station
run independently by Arab students attending the
university. Since the society is
a volunteer-based not-for-profit organization,
any profits made in any event either carry-over
to next year’s events or are donated to
humanitarian organizations serving communities
in the Arab World.
This is the official website of the Dalhousie
Arabic Society, and will be used to get the word
out on our society and create a better sense of
community among our members.
Our
Mission
The
Dalhousie Arabic Society works to serve our
community the best we can. We are trying to
create a self-conscious Arabic community with
individuals who are curious about our rich
cultures. At the same time, we are working to
expose to our new country, Canada, the reality
behind our traditions thus changing some
existing stereotypes and misconceptions.
